Front & Rear Window Limits

Effective July 1, 2026, Georgia law generally prohibits material on front side or door windows directly beside the driver below 28% VLT, plus or minus 3%. Except for statutory exemptions, rear windshield and rear side or door windows not directly beside the driver generally may not be below 15% VLT, plus or minus 3%. Reflectance may not exceed 20%.

Front Windshield Restrictions

Georgia generally prohibits window tint on the front windshield, with limited statutory exceptions. State guidance permits a transparent item that is not red or amber on the uppermost six inches and lists additional narrow exceptions.

Vehicle & Medical Exceptions

Georgia lists exceptions for certain vehicle types, windows tinted before factory delivery, and other circumstances described in the statute. The Department of Public Safety may also issue permits for special medical needs requiring darker tint.
